 某部救护长纪娴和军医林瑛接到电报去江城,在列车上,她们回忆起战时的情景……前方已经打响了,可"三八"女子救护队却被师后勤部程副部长派出的岗哨关在山沟里不准进入战区进行救护,这可急坏了女兵们。副军长的女儿潘凡凡敢想敢做,出了一条妙计,她领着女兵们脱掉外衣,装作去洗澡,吓得小哨兵背过脸去,她们趁机冲过岗哨,这样,她们截回来一卡车伤员。女兵们的求战热情感动了程副部长,师首长的批评也使他改变了怕出事的思想,终于批准了女兵们的要求,并亲自为她们送行。女子战地救护队向前沿进发了。林瑛这时也沉湎在回忆之中。她的父亲是大学教授,出于门第观念极力反对她与解放军排长许杰相爱,她违心地和许杰分手了。这次在前沿她意外地遇到了许杰,听到他充满柔情地给战士们读女友的情书,她为许杰的幸福心中感到一丝宽慰。当许杰带领全排冲锋时受伤牺牲后,林瑛在他的口袋中翻到了那封未婚妻了来信,原来是一封绝交信,而许杰刚才念给战友们的,是为了鼓舞大家士气而编出来的话语。火车到达江城,纪娴和林瑛按照地址来到一幢新居,等待她们的原来是战友潘凡凡。她要战友们来参加她的婚礼。那么新郎是谁呢?她们都猜想新郎是那次"抢"回来的伤员罗小丹,凡凡却说出来另一个她们没想到的人。凡凡提起让人难忘的928洼地,在战地临时包扎所附近,纪娴正领着轻伤员们阻击敌人,包扎所里,手术正在紧张地进行着,血肉模糊、生命垂危的罗小丹被抬下来急需抢救,这时何亚男已身负重伤,她咬紧牙关为罗小丹包扎,手术完成,罗小丹脱离了危险,何亚男却因失血过多,无声无息地倒下了再也没有醒过来。潘凡凡为她的英雄行为所感动,觉得自己过去不该那样对待她。凡凡想说服罗小丹,自己去和亚男的丈夫及母亲组织家庭,父亲潘副军长及母亲说服不了任性的女儿,凡凡硬是发出一封封电报,真的要一厢情愿她嫁到何家去,还是纪娴几个姐妹把她劝住了,凡凡冷静了下来并取得了罗小丹的谅解。救护员田花要走向新的岗位,林瑛也准备攻读大学课程。纪娴看到战友们纷纷走向新的生活,心中充满了无限欣尉。

等待方舟

  Set in an underground dungeon inhabited by bundled, ragged human beings, after the nuclear holocaust. The story follows the wanderings of a hero through the situations of survival. People wait for the Ark to arrive and rescue them while their habitat falls apart.  Delving deep into the dusty and long abandonded vaults of b-cinema in search of lost gems always leaves me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand the discovery of unexpected gems where no one would think them possible is a rewarding experience. On the other hand though it makes one wonder how many of these remarkable low-budget oddities, personal love affairs of directors never quite famous and now all but forgotten, have almost forever slipped from memory?  n any case what we have here is a little post-apocalyptic gem from Poland that is really better than it has any right to. The dystopian near future of O-BI, O-BA finds a group of survivors of the nuclear war that ravaged the Earth inhabiting an underworld concrete bunker and biding their time as they wait for the mysterious Ark, an air ship of some kind that will come and save them. The Ark proves to be an elaborate hoax, carefully designed to give hope to the malnourished and desperate denizens of the bunker, while in the meantime the dome that separates their miserable existence from the nuclear winter outside is slowly caving in.  What first striked me about the movie is the design of the bunker and the depiction of the survivors. The survivors are gaunt, filthy and terrible-looking penitents, dressed in rags and aimlessly wandering the neon-lit halls of the bunker like automatons. The bunker is a rundown, seedy place, with bright neon lights peering from all sides like the eyes of malignant beasts.  On one hand it is a slightly 80's depiction of the dystopian future but the movie never stoops down to MAD MAX cheese. Instead it combines biting political satire with the bleak outlook of a world with no future, black comedy with barbs on apathy, religion and power. The survivors, for example, are fed some kind of flour dropping from a tube that hovers in the air - later on we discover the food supervisor uses books and the Bible itself as filler for this meagre meal. There are many such short symbolic touches, perhaps not life-changing or faith-restoring, yet playful, clever and inspired.  One thing is for sure; O-BI, O-BA is not your run-of-the-mill sci-fi schlock. It overcomes its modest budget with creativity and has genuine artistic aspirations both from a writing and directing perspective. My opinion is that it should have been filmed in black and white instead of colour though. The director uses atmospheric light and shadow to great effect and it would have registered even better in stark black and white. The blue-green neon on the other hand outstays its welcome after a while. Just a minor gripe in an otherwise solid b-movie with its heart set in all the right places.  Imagine a less bleak THE ROAD (Cormac McCarthy) being injected with the satire and humour of DR.STRANGELOVE and you're getting there. See it if you can find it.
